Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior official stated the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
